Elbert Smart was a dynamic campmeeting speaker and evangelist for many years. In the 1950s and 1960s he lived in Beaumont, Texas and was a featured youth camp speaker in North Texas, West Texas and New Mexico.

Brother Smart pastored the Valley Hi Assembly of God church in San Antonio for more than three decades prior to his retirement in 2001. In 1969, he led the congregation in the construction of a new sanctuary after a fire destroyed the original church building.

Brother Smart continues to minister in retirement throughout the South Texas area.
